If you like the E30 M3 racing design, then you’ll be thrilled to hear BMW is heavily drawing from its styling for the newest M2. This latest model is set to be released sometime in November of this year; however, a special edition variant will also be made available thanks to popular demand.
According to BMW, the BMW M2 design was heavily inspired by the classic E30 racecar design. Features distinct to the M2 CSL model will be exclusive wheel arches, a rear wing, and advanced aerodynamics. The new M2’s engine will produce approximately 370 hp – pretty impressive, considering its lightweight engineering.
“With M cars, we try to get the downforce right without moveable aero. It’s the most authentic way,” said BMW Group design director Adrian van Hooydonk. “I’d have to give Colin Chapman the credit for the ‘performance through light weight’ mantra, but that was another big factor for the E30, and that is also a priority for us.”
Although the new M2 is still under wraps, BMW has released some renderings of the new vehicles. It’s expected that the special edition M2 may arrive sometime early next year in celebration of BMW’s 100-year anniversary.
