BMW has launched the BMW i DC Fast Chargers at Plug-In 2014 at the San Jose Convention Center, developed in collaboration with Bosch Automotive Service Solutions.
BMW i DC Fast Chargers offer a more compact and efficient solution to DC Combo fast chargers, especially for BMW i3 owners.
Although conventional fast chargers are about the size of a standard refrigerator, cost tens of thousands of dollars, and require a significant amount of electricity, BMW’s models will be only half that size (they can even be mounted on a wall) and cost less than $7,000.
The 24 kW DC Fast Charger feeds the current directly to the vehicle’s battery, allowing owners to charge their BMW i3’s up to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
BMW also announced the ChargeNow DC Fast program, which allows BMW i3 drivers in California to get unlimited 30-minute DC fast charging at NRG eVgo Feedom Station sites through 2015.
