You don’t become the manufacturer of the ultimate driving machine by sitting back and letting other brands beat you to the punch. You do it by identifying trends and innovations early and working to turn those trends and innovations into the most amazing product you can. That’s what BMW has been doing for decades, and that’s what they’ve done with the new BMW 740Ld xDrive Sedan, the newest model in the automaker’s quickly expanding diesel family.
The 740Ld brings diesel capability to the popular 7 Series for the first time, installing a 3.0L inline-6 BMW Advanced Diesel engine complete with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology inside the classy and iconic long-wheelbase body of the BMW 7 Series. The diesel engine, attached to an 8-speed automatic transmission, will crank out 255 horsepower. While official EPA-estimated numbers have not been released yet, BMW hopes to see up to a 30% increase in fuel economy in the 740Ld over its gas-powered 7 Series siblings.
The 740Ld xDrive Sedan will be the seventh model in the BMW diesel family, joining the 328d and 328d xDrive Sedans, the 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, the 535d and 535d xDrive Sedans, and the X5 xDrive35d Sports Activity Vehicle. The newest diesel addition will make its debut at the Chicago Auto Show this February before landing in showrooms later this spring, so check back with us here at JMK BMW often for updates!
