BMW will be shining the spotlight on its all-new SAV, the Concept X5 eDrive, at the Frankfurt International Motor Show next month. This public event starts September 10 and is said to be an opportunity for BMW to unleash innovative cars that will boost drivers’ landmark efficiencies.
The company’s sporty, luxurious SUV combines a plug-in hybrid with an all-wheel driving system, maximizing its fuel efficiency through electric power. It’s manufactured with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 95 horsepower electric motor.
As a result, the X5 eDrive can travel 19 miles on electric power alone with the help of a high-powered lithium-ion battery while reaching speeds up to 75 mph. And according to its EU test cycle, its fuel economy will turn heads averaging 62 miles per gallon.
Following in the footsteps of the 2012 Active Tourer, a front-drive MPV, the X5 will be the second plug-in hybrid vehicle to come out of Munich. While the Tourer will launch in a few years, the X5 eDrive will be out sooner as it is projected to be in American showrooms by late fall of 2014.
