BMW and GM have teamed up for the Combo. They’ve been
working together to ensure that the BMW i3 and Chevrolet Spark Electric will be
the first two United States vehicles to be compatible with the Society of
Automotive Engineers’ (SAE) fast-charging “Combo” standard. BMW and GM have collaborated on their
upcoming EV’s to conform to the AC and DC charging in the same port.
The i3 will be able to be 80 percent recharged in an estimated
20 minutes says BMW. The i3 will be BMW’s first EV. The Chevrolet Spark is set
to launch later this month while the i3 deliveries will start later this year.
The BMW i3 is a vehicle that is designed for urban areas and
runs purely on electric power. It is powered by innovative eDrive technology
