TFLCar gets behind the wheel of the 2013 BMW M6 Coupe to
find out really how fast it will go at a mile above sea level. The record time
was set by the new Mercedes-Benz SL which was 4.8 seconds.
The M6 has the TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder engine with 560
horsepower with 502 lb-ft of torque. It has between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm while
maximum output is developed between 6,000 and 7,000 rpm. The engine revs nicely
at a maximum of 7,200 rpm. 0-60 mph is achieved in only 4.1 seconds. The BMW M6
has a top speed of 155 mph. The engine is matted to a 7-speed M Double Clutch
The Mercedes-Benz SL is what the hosts of the video mention.
However a more realistic comparison would have been against the SL63 AMG
version. The SL63 AMG has a twin-turbo 5.5 liter V8 engine that produces 529
horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque.
The Video below shows the M6 being tested one mile above
sea-level. The guys in the video are noobies and couldn’t figure out the Launch
Control feature, which is in the beginning of the video. Ignore them. It DOES work;
they just couldn’t figure it out.
