Last week, the BMW Group was awarded two awards at the SAM Group Sustainability Awards ceremony in Berlin, Germany. BMW earned SAM Gold Class Status and was also named Sector Leader, the vest result among all vehicle makers.
SAM Group, headquartered in Zurich, is a sustainability rating agency founded in 1995. SAM Group’s Corporate Sustainability Assessments analyses over 2,000 listed companies every year.
Michael Baldinger, CEO of SAM Group, paid tribute to the achievements of the BMW Group: “The BMW Group is a leader in terms of innovation management and has demonstrated a clear commitment to reducing negative environmental impact along the entire value chain.”
The BMW Group’s commitment to sustainability received several prestigious awards last year as well. For example, the company was named most sustainable auto company in the DowJones Sustainability Index for the seventh consecutive year. 2011 also marks the year when the BMW Group came in first among all vehicle makers in the CDP Global 500 Ranking.
In addition to the two remarkable awards awarded to BMW last week, JMK BMW is excited to inform everyone that BMW Group also took the top spot in the Engine of the Years Awards for 2012! The four trophy-winners comprised of two four-cylinder engines, a straight-six and an eight-cylinder. Taking the best-in-class wins were the 1.6-litre turbo unit of the MINI Cooper S, the four-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology that drives the new BMW 328i, among others, the straight-six with M TwinPower Turbo of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, and the V8 under the bonnet of the BMW M3.
