A few years ago, if you would have mentioned the idea of autonomous vehicles, you would have been called a dreamer. BMW is composed of dreamers, only they work to make their dreams a reality. Now, with the help of Intel and Mobileye, BMW is one step closer to its dream.
According to a BMW press release, BMW plans to have autonomous vehicles on the road by 2021.
In order to achieve this lofty goal, BMW is working hand-in-hand with technology giants Intel and Mobileye.
The goal of all three companies is to create a driving experience that is safer for everyone on the road. To create such an experience, Mobileye and Intel are providing BMW with the sensing and connectivity technologies that the autonomous BMW vehicles require to function properly.
“Highly autonomous cars and everything they connect to will require powerful and reliable electronic brains to make them smart enough to navigate traffic and avoid accidents,” said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. “This partnership between BMW Group, Intel and Mobileye will help us to quickly deliver on our vision to reinvent the driving experience.”
BMW’s development of autonomous vehicles is just the latest way that BMW is making the impossible a very possible reality!
